1. Why do you choose to use bamboo, not other wood?
Bamboo is one of the largest renewable plants on earth and is widely distributed in China. Unlike traditional hardwood, bamboo can be selectively harvested every year without destroying the bamboo forest. It is natural, sustainable forestry. Bamboo roots will sprout the next spring and it takes only 4-6 years for bamboo shoots to grow to full maturity, with no need for special human cultivation.
Meanwhile, bamboo is dimensionally stable and easy to fabricate and maintain. It is 27% harder than red oak, and has 50% less shrinkage or expansion than red oak. It is also resistant against moisture and insects, and free of toxic substances.
2. Will the adorable pandas in China go hungry when more bamboo is taken for industrial use?
There is absolutely no need to worry about this. Panda’s food is a special species of bamboo called Arrow Bamboo, whose diameter is normally 1-4cm. And right now, Pandas only live in certain areas like Wolong Panda Reserve in Sichuan Province. Bamboo used for manufacturing is another species called Mao Bamboo. Mao Bamboo is much bigger and stronger than Arrow Bamboo. It can grow as big as 10-20cm wide and 10-20 meters high.
